Featured Testimonial

"After much research, I selected Happy Tails Travel for my pet ground transport needs. We needed to get our dog Zoe from Florida to North Carolina - and as soon as possible for health reasons.

From the moment that I was connected with my pet travel specialist, Samantha, she was professional, friendly, and answered all of my questions. I was promptly assigned a driver and trip plan. Our driver, Julie, immediately made both myself & Zoe feel comfortable and ready for her adventure.

During the trip, Julie stayed in regular contact and furnished wonderful photographs. I never had a moment of doubt or worry - I knew Zoe was in excellent care.

The choice to go with Happy Tails has been one of my best decisions ever. From start to finish, everything went smoothly and helped to make a difficult time much easier. Excellent communication, professional experience, and friendly service. I highly recommend Happy Tails Travels!"

Tips for Safe International Pet Travel

By: Bridget Monrad, R.N. | Aug 30, 2013

‘Where do I even begin with sending my pet to another country!’  That is the first thought when people learn they need to move internationally. We have some helpful pet move tips that will greatly ease the process into a smooth move for your pet relocation.

Plan Ahead!

One can never plan too far ahead for international pet travel. Each country has their own rules and regulations. Some, but not all counties have pet quarantine requirements; if this is needed, you need to expedite any vaccinations so that you have time to compete the requirements ahead of time. Once you know the rules and requirements of the country your pet is moving to, you can then decide what is priority as far as getting vaccinations, such as a Rabies inoculation, and what paperwork to obtain.

Find a Veterinarian!

Having an accredited vet is important for international travel. Most, but not all are. You can ask your vet if he or she is. If not, find one. The bigger the vet office, the more likely they will have an accredited vet on staff. It is very helpful if the veterinarian you choose has experience with international travel for live animals as the documentation is very detailed and 100% accuracy in filling out the forms is mandatory. As part of our service we assist vets one on one with any questions they have, and can provide the necessary documents and review them to ensure that everything is in good order.

Get your Paperwork in Order!

Country regulations for a pet import varies. Finding out what documents are needed, where to obtain them, how to fill them out, and where to send once complete are all part of the process. We feel it is helpful to provide our clients with a timeline of when to complete each step of the process from start to the day of flight so that once the pet arrives at the airport, all is in great order! An airport can turn you away if everything is not perfect. A country can turn a pet away upon arrival if there are any documents missing or inaccurate.

Get a Travel Crate!

There are more regulations in pet travel crates for international pet relocation! Some countries, such as the UK, have been known to fine the airline money if a pet is in a crate that is not big enough, not the correct brand, is missing nuts/bolts or is damaged, or is not IATA approved for pets such as birds or reptiles.

Find a Flight!

The most direct, least expensive flight is always our number one priority when researching flights. It can be confusing and overwhelming to find a good flight, since each airline has its very own policies and procedures. It is helpful to have a pet travel agent assist with this very important part of your pet’s smooth move.

Don’t Worry!

If you follow all of the above tips it will help you formulate a plan of action for getting your pet safely to his or her new home. At Happy Tails Travel we have enjoyed sending pets by air with care around the world since 1995. There are a lot of counties in our small world.
